My name is Daniel Shaw aka SAWBLADE
I'm an illustrator based out of Houston, Texas. I landed my first professional gig in 1993 when I was 18 years old, providing art for a Chevron safety manual.
While keeping the door open for commercial jobs, my focus soon turned to the music scenes I loved. That’s where the bulk of my work has been ever since. In 2019 I decided to take the plunge into drawing full time and I haven't looked back.
I work exclusively in pen and ink. I’m obsessed with pushing the medium to its limits, and I’m constantly amazed at what can be done. My influences range from the art of classical antiquity to sleazy, lowbrow, trash culture from the 1970s and 80s. I also take inspiration from the underground hardcore/punk and metal music scenes of the 1980s and early 90s.
In my spare time (which there is very little of ) I love to explore my hobbies, which include building and painting wargaming miniatures, digging for old comics, going to shows and concerts, collecting records, visiting museums and bookstores, long nature walks and jogging.
I’ve done a wide variety of projects through the years – from children’s books to death metal LP cover art. If you like what you see and feel like my work would be a good fit for your next project, please feel free to contact me. Let's create some visual insanity together!
